SPRING 2023 Newsletter

Dear Family Members,

REUNION OCTOBER 1st

Some of us are already beginning to make plans for our 2023 reunion. In fact, there is talk of having a meal together on Saturday evening for those who arrive early or live close by. Details will be sent in our regular newsletter at the end of summer. The purpose of this letter is to keep in touch and provide news and reminders. It only goes to those whose email addresses we have. Please forward to others who might not receive it. Also, mark your calendars for Sunday, October 1, 2023 as the day of our annual reunion.

MOORE MUSEUM

Do you have plans to be in or near Glynn County? An interesting experience awaits you and your family at the Moore Museum, Epworth by the Sea, St. Simons. This museum is fun and free and recently expanded. You will be welcomed by a new, life-size Nativity and then see lots of artifacts and exhibits related to the history of Methodism in South Georgia, starting with plantation days, John and Charles Wesley, Methodist women and much more. Details at mooremethodistmuseum.com

FAMILY STORIES

Names and dates can usually be found in various records, but family tales can be like buried treasure….lost forever if we don’t record them or tell relatives. Crista Cowan, the Barefoot Genealogist, suggested five types, stories about heirlooms, bravery, love, travels and inspiration. Write down what you remember about a dramatic event or quirky ancestor or a tale you’ve heard. Then share these with your family members!!

SCHOLARSHIP

Finally, remember our family’s $1000 Roots and Wings Scholarship. Please contact chairperson Susan Middleton at SYMiddleton@bellsouth.net or 478-955-4377, for more information or an application. The winner will be announced at the October reunion. The deadline for entry is June 1.

I hope to see you in October.
