Greetings family and friends,

To summarize the 2016 reunion in a word: terrific!! The weather was beautiful, the speaker excellent and food delicious as usual. After the business session we had a special Iron Cross Ceremony in Ebenezer Cemetery, marking the grave of Confederate soldier James Smith Kitchens by his descendants Laine B. Ingle and her 6-year old twins Taylor and Tyler, who are members of the Children of the Confederacy. Very Impressive!

As some of you already know, our cousin the Hon. Hugh Thompson of Milledgeville has been serving on the Supreme Court of Georgia and for the last several years was the Chief Justice. He stepped down from that position in January after 45 years of distinguished service. We are so proud of our very special family member!!!

Now is the time to begin thinking about our upcoming reunion next October. This year will be the 60th Annual Reunion. To remind you, the first one took place at Ebenezer Church on June 22, 1958. Try to imagine how the church and surroundings looked then: no picnic shelters, no chain link fence, little landscaping, on a dirt road and of course no air conditioning or indoor restroom! It is said that there were over 500 in attendance. Ten years ago we had some special events to mark our 50th gathering including a fish fry and a special music program on Saturday evening. What do we want to do this year??? Please give it some thought and let any officer or board member know your ideas. Not many families can boast of such a long and successful history; we are so fortunate and have much to celebrate!

60th Annual Reunion

Descendants of Reubin and Rachel Chambers Thompson
and allied Families

Saturday, September 30th, and Sunday, October 1st, 2017
Ebenezer Methodist Church on Kemp Road, Emanuel County

Over the last several months I have worked hard to refine over 20 years of Thompson family research. The descendants of Reubin and Rachel whom I have collected number over 10,000. The time has come to get this published! Please send me updates on your branch of the family. Because of the large numbers, I can only include direct descendants of Reubin and may cut the information off at seven generations. Your help at proofreading will be needed.

As a reminder, the application deadline for our family’s $1000 “Roots and Wings” Scholarship is June 1, 2017. More information or an application is available from chairwoman Susan Middleton at symiddleton@bellsouth.net or 6345 Stapleton Road, Macon GA 31216.

Please mark your fall calendars, make your plans and pass this newsletter on to others.
