Our most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mildred Frances Usry Thompson, who passed away on June 11, 2024 in Eatonton, Putnam County, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 70 years, Clarence Ashley Thompson Sr. who died August 2, 2023 and had served as the pastor of Ebenezer Methodist Church of Kemp, Emanuel County, Georgia for 20 years.

Her interment was on June 15, 2024 in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Avera, Jefferson County, Georgia.

Mildred Frances Usry Thompson died at The Harbor at Harmony Crossing Assisted Living Home in Eatonton GA on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. She was born December 20,1932 in Bath SC to Jim C Usry Sr. and Rubie Hicks Usry and was the oldest of five children. She moved to Swainsboro, as a child, and met Clarence Ashley Thompson at the Swainsboro High School JR/SR Prom. On October 17, 1952, they were married and spent most of Clarence’s 20-year Army career moving around to new places. She was a great cook and was especially known for her 6-layer chocolate cakes. Mildred was also known for her love of entertaining guests in their home.

She was preceded in death by both parents; brothers Carlton Usry (who died at 3 years of age) and Jim C Usry Jr.; and her husband of almost 70 years, Clarence Ashley Thompson Sr. who died August 2, 2023.

She is survived by daughter Angela Mauldin (Larry) of Greensboro GA, son Clay Thompson (Susan) of Hoschton GA, daughter Ofelia Bobo (Hiram) of Gibson GA, and son Clarence Ashley Thompson Jr. (Michelle) of Prattville AL; four grandchildren Laray Mauldin Mask (Brett), Brett Mauldin (Candice), Clayton Thompson (Makaila), Breanna Tsai (Frank); six great- grandchildren; brother David Lamar Usry (Brenda) of Ellijay GA, and sister Eleanor U. Batchelor (Bennie) of Cochran GA; sister-in-law Wilma Thompson of Social Circle GA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family. Honored to serve as pallbearers include Brett Mauldin, Tanner Mask, Jon Mathews, Jody Thompson, Graig Poppell, Stephen Graham, Julie Prescott and Dale Wright.

Funeral services will be at the Wrens Church of God Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Jason Burton and Dr. Brett Mask officiating. Her son, Clarence Ashley Thompson Jr., will officate the interment ceremony at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Avera GA. The family will receive friends at Wrens Church of God at 10:00 AM Saturday—one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wrens Church of God.

Heartfelt thanks and appreciation are extended to Nate and Rene, her Hospice Care Givers and special thanks to her fulltime care giver Pamela, who loved Mildred like a mother.
