commemorative marker of Robert Bird Thompson; the marker indicates he was a soldier of the 48th Maryland Regiment but he was actually a soldier of the 48th Georgia Regiment; during the War Between the States he was wounded in the hand, necessitating amputation of two fingers, at 2d Manassas, Va. on August 30, 1862. He was captured at Deep Bottom, Va. August 17, 1864 and was exchanged at Point Lookout, Md. on March 14, 1865. He was paroled at Augusta, Ga. on May 18, 1865. |
